The Kenting area generally refers to the region between the two southernmost capes of Taiwan, stretching from Maobitou to Eluanbi. It extends westward from Nanwan Beach and eastward to the western side of Eluanbi Cape. The land within this area consists mainly of gently sloping limestone plateaus, interspersed with some exotic rock formations. The name “Kenting” originates from a commemoration of the Han Chinese male settlers who first came to reclaim and cultivate the land.
Kenting enjoys a warm climate and springlike weather throughout the year. Its unique combination of marine and terrestrial settings, together with a tropical climate, has given rise to rich and diverse ecosystems. Moreover, millions of years of continuous crustal movement and the interaction between land and sea have shaped a variety of remarkable geological landscapes, including uplifted coral reefs, marine erosion landforms, and cliff terrains.
