"Luminous Cloud Isles and the Starman" draws inspiration from the "Welcoming the King and Peace Festival," a triennial event held at Donglong Temple in Donggang. Starting with the culture of people praying for their hometown, it incorporates local characteristics and sustainability themes, extending into a virtual, childlike story and characters. This story is presented through public art, conveying hopes and blessings for a harmonious future for humanity and the environment.
In its story script and design, "Luminous Cloud Isles and the Starman" features four island-like structures, each with its own "island owner." These themes and characters are inspired by the animal characteristics of the four zodiac animals associated with the "Year of the Ox," "Dragon," "Sheep," and "Dog" during the King's Festival. These are combined with symbolic elements representing Donggang's landscape, daily life, and agricultural and fishing industries. The creation is straightforward, simplified, and anthropomorphized, guiding the story to introduce Donggang to visitors and inviting them to explore. It also subtly alludes to the deep-rooted efforts of Donggang's residents in developing in-depth tourism, marine conservation, sustainable fisheries, and environmentally friendly agriculture.
In the story, people's long-held wishes to the stars transform into tiny water droplets that slowly gather to form four "Luminous Cloud Isles and the Starmans." Star Man, the Thousand-Year-Old Emperor's all-powerful little secretary, leads everyone to the four Luminous Cloud Isles and the Starmans to find their owners and explore the local areas. The themes and island owners of the four Yunguang Islands include: "Beautiful Island - Golden and Silver Three Sisters," which promotes in-depth local tourism; "Guardian Island - Ocean Dock," which continues local marine conservation efforts; "The Day and Night Fisherman's Ship," which reflects on sustainable fisheries; and "The Vibrant Three Treasure Trees," which represents the "Lidi" spirit of Donggang agriculture. The designs corresponding to these themes incorporate elements such as the outline of tropical fish formations in Donggang as seen from the sky, the old name of Xiaoliuqiu "Pofushan Island," the "Wax Apple" and its old name "Linzibian" by the forest, Beidawu Mountain, the old-style "Ice Dock" by the harbor, sakura shrimp, ocean-going fishing boats, red beans, and cantaloupe leaves.
