King Boat Museum

The Pingtung King Boat Museum is Taiwan’s first local cultural museum dedicated to the King Boat (Wang Yeh) Festival culture. Construction began in 2022, and the museum officially opened in 2024. The museum features five major exhibition themes: “Ocean Belief,” “Patrol on Behalf of Heaven,” “Wangyeh Culture of Pingtung,” “Craftsmanship of King Boat,” and “Donggang Wangyeh Worshipping Ceremony (The Donggang King Boat Festival).”  It also houses a king boat handcrafted by a nationally recognized local master artisan. Through immersive experiences, visitors can gain a close understanding of the history and craftsmanship traditions of king boats. The main architecture of the ship adopts imagery inspired by ships and the ocean, connecting with Donggang’s local characteristics. The museum building also incorporates natural ventilation and sun-shading systems to reduce energy consumption, making it a sustainable building.
