The 2022 Taiwan Lantern Festival is in Kaohsiung, Welcome to the Lantern Festival Artistic Feast

1949
The Tourism Bureau under the Ministry of Transportation and Communications has brought together traditional lantern craftsmanship with cross-discipline art and interactive technology in 6 lantern display areas. In addition, it continues the tradition established over the past few years of inviting international friends to take part. This year, 10 international groups including the local governments of various prefectures and cities from Japan, the Federation of St. Christopher and Nevis and Belize have been invited to imbue their lantern designs with local characteristics and traditions. Although Taiwanese cannot travel abroad due to the pandemic, going to the International Friendship lantern display area is almost like being in a foreign country.

The Tourism Bureau hopes to use a combination of traditional and innovative concepts at the Taiwan Lantern Festival to promote international mutual visits and strengthen international friendship, with the light of the “lanterns” banishing the gloom of the pandemic and re-launching travel exchange. It is hoped that travelers around the world will choose Taiwan as a tourist destination after the pandemic restrictions are lifted. Experience firsthand a place where pandemic prevention work has been a resounding success, while enjoying the culture, gourmet food and spectacular scenery Taiwan has to offer.
