Sustainable tourism in Little Liuqiu


Little Liuqiu is Taiwan’s only islet that’s fully covered with coral reefs. The green sea turtles and many other ocean creatures have find their homes in Little Liuqiu for this blessed islet’s unique geological and ecological systems.

Over the years ecological awareness has been high on the agenda in Little Liuqiu. Just for example, beach cleaning is often held to keep Little Liuqiu’s ocean ecology alive.


Sustainable tourism in Little Liuqiu

1. Do not get into the sea after putting on sun screen, as this may cause corals to die.

2. Do not touch the living creatures of intertidal zones. Minimum interference is the key.

3. Choose restaurants that mainly serve seasonal fish, and bring own utensils.

4. Try not to produce as much garbage.

5. Choose environment-aware businesses.

6. Never touch green sea turtles and other wildlife.

7. During the turtles’ breeding season (June – September), avoid doing night activities on beaches. The turtles lay eggs at night.

8. Little Liuqiu is still a good place to travel in the winter. Visit Little Liuqiu at this time of a year to avoid crowds.
