The Zhongao Beach is located between the Lobster Cave and the Baisha Tourist Harbor. The enormous white beach is on the left of the Baisha Tourist Harbor and behind the Baisha Elementary School. People come here to chill out and to enjoy the crystal clear water and fun beach activities in summer.. This is also where “The water invocation” and “The See-off Ceremony (boat burning)”of the triennial “Worshipping ceremony” is held. A fantastic spot to enjoy the panoramic view of Linyuan Industry Park.

Zhongao is the only beach in Taiwan where visitors can watch green turtles find food or lay eggs. The green turtles are officially listed as an endangered species of the island. May to July is the breeding season of green turtles. In order to protect our green turtles, parts of the beach are listed as conservation zones by the Pingtung County Government. From May 1 to October 31 each year between 20:00 and 5:00 the following morning, the general public and tourists are forbidden from entering the beach and the intertidal zone, so as to avoid disturbing these animals. Violators will be persecuted.

Liuqiu is Taiwan's only place where people can see green sea turtles hunting for food by the shores. And Zhongao is one of the few beaches where the turtles come back to lay eggs when they grow up. Green sea turtles are an endangered species. Every summer, they mate and lay eggs. To protect the few green turtles, Pingtung County Government made the beach a conservation zone, and from May 1 to October 31 every year, visitors are forbidden to enter the beach and its intertidal zone from 8pm to 5am the next day, daily. If you ever visit Liuqiu in the summer, be sure to avoid night-time beach activities, or simply keep quiet if you must go to the beach. Do not use flashlights so as not to scare the precious creatures.
